Prayer for Lana's Birth Day

As week 36 approaches, please join me in this prayer for Lana's upcoming Birth Day.

Dear Abba,
Thank you for choosing Chris and I to bestow the blessing of this coming child. Thank you that she is fearfully and wonderfully made. We trust your timing for her arrival and for her safe and gentle passage into our arms. We are confident in the ultimate normalcy of birth, the design of the woman's body and trust baby and body to do what our minds cannot fathom.

We respect Your design for pregnancy and birth. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made to carry this unique and special baby girl and that my body was created to birth her. I ask for a gentle passage through the gate she will pass. I also ask for the instinctual wisdom and persistence in nurturing and nursing Lana. I accept Your calling of sacrifice of hard work during labor and birth without chemical means. I pray that the mental and emotional preparation will merge with spiritual preparation so that I can be at peace and focus on trusting you--the Creator of life in Your wisdom and plan for this child and this birth. I ask that my body open to the fullness of time under Your strength and my heart be turned to Lana in the perfection of Your love.

Please bless the hands of our midwives, Michelle and Debi. Thank you for their midwifery wisdom, support, comfort and guidance in this process as well as their presence and godly spirit.

Thank you for Chris, my husband, my best friend, my coach, who has supported me throughout pregnancy and will be my leaning post during labor. Give him hands and heart to know how to assist me during labor as coach. Thank you for the loving and godly father he will be to Lana and for the preparation of a daddy's tender heart for loving a little girl.

I rest in knowing You have been birthing babies for 6000 years and that life is your specialty. I trust You and surrender my own plans, even my hopes, to Your will.

In Jesus's name,
Amen.

Labor Part 2--Lana's Birth Story

After 36 hours of early labor and the nesting done, we laid down for another nap around 4pm. I woke up earlier than Chris and then finally woke him up around 6:30pm because Dr. Yoon was coming back by to check on me. She did some more acupuncture and as she was leaving, my water broke around 7-7:30pm. We called Michelle, our midwife, back and she was on her way over. Making it through each contraction was priority #1 as the intensity rose significantly after the water broke. Lana had engaged down and it was so painful to lay down so I paced the house and as each contraction came, new coping skills had to be developed so we tried a lot of things. I sat on the exercise ball, I leaned on it on top of the bed, I got in the shower many times and let the hot water fall on my lower back, and I leaned on Chris. I really enjoyed getting in the shower. My friend, Andy arrived around 8pm to bring me an oreo milkshake which I was not in the mood for any longer (although it would come in ha...

My brother teaches me something

I decided to write my brother a letter last week. While I sat down to write the letter, it dawned on me that there were some words he needed to hear. Chris reminded me that I might be the only person in the world that understands him because of experiencing the same childhood. First, I told him I was proud of him for working hard to stay out of trouble and keep a job. These are words that we both long to hear from our parents. Our desire to hear these words from them pushed us to act in two very different ways. Second, I told him that I admired him. That might sound strange intiailly but the last time that I saw him was at dinner at my parent's house. Before he left, he leaned down to give a hug to my father who was laying in the recliner. Dad didn't reciprocate, but I can't imagine how much courage and forgiveness had gone through Thomas's heart to be able to do that. I'm shamed to admit that I can only remember hugging my dad 2 times in my adult life. ...

The Home Birth of Norah Hope

41 weeks 1 day pregnant--The time had come finally and thank the Lord because this ole body was ready. I had an appointment with my midwife, Michelle Ray on Monday, April 29th at 10am. Last week, the baby's hand (and possibly the cord) was above her head so Michelle used the ultrasound to check her out. Praise the Lord! Her hand was not above her head. They were at her mouth and pretty sure she was sucking one of her thumbs and/or fingers. I kinda melted... Knowing there was no obstruction, after dinner on Monday, I pulled out the moxibustion sticks from the last birth and lit them up and placed them on the induction pressure points . After all, I had been having crazy contractions for over 2 weeks. The kids surrounded me with indelible curiosity about the moxibustion. Immediately, the baby began moving a lot and contractions started. I continued pressing the pressure points through out the evening before bed and turned in early around 930pm. I woke up at 3am because of...
